Three new linemen to join Fightin' Blue Hens |

12:35 p.m., April 11, 2003--University of Delaware football Head Coach K.C. Keeler has announced three more additions to the 2003 recruiting class, including his first two recruits from the state of California.
Keeler announced that offensive tackle Greg Benson from Plantation, Fla., defensive tackle Brandt Bubba Jespersen from Santa Margarita, Calif., and defensive tackle Paul Howse from Poway, Calif., have signed NCAA National Letters of Intent to attend UD on athletic scholarships.
The three signings bring this years recruiting class to 16. The class includes four defensive backs, four defensive linemen, three offensive linemen, three linebackers, one quarterback and one running back. The players are drawn from seven different states.
Benson is a 6-foot 2-inch, 280-pound offensive tackle from Plantation High School, where he was a teammate of fellow recruit Richard Washington. He was a member of a team that was ranked No. 1 in the state of Florida in 2002, posted a 10-0 record and won its conference championship. He earned second team All-County honors and was named third team All-State.
Benson also was a starter in prestigious Dade County vs. Broward County All-Star Game. In addition to playing football, he also throws the shot put for the Plantation High track and field team.
Howse, a 6-foot 2-inch, 280-pound defensive tackle, enjoyed a standout career at Poway High School before playing the last two seasons at San Diego Mesa Junior College. Howse, who will have junior eligibility this fall, was a two-time All-Foothill Conference selection at Poway High School, where he also competed on the wrestling team.
Howse attended San Diego Mesa Junior College, where he enjoyed a standout two-year career. He was team defensive captain and defensive Most Valuable Player last fall when he posted 68 tackles, 11 quarterback sacks and nine tackles for loss. He forced four fumbles and recovered three others.
Jespersen, a 6-foot 2-inch, 270-pound defensive tackle, played offensive and defensive line and also was a deep and short snapper at Santa Margarita
Catholic High School. He led the squad to Sierra League titles in 2000 and 2001 and was part of four teams that advanced to the state playoffs. He was named Sierra League Offensive Lineman of the Year as a senior and was selected to play in the Orange County North-South All-Star Game.
An outstanding weightlifter, Jespersen earned the teams Top Iron Eagle Award for strength and conditioning. He holds the school records for bench press (365 pounds) and power clean (305 pounds). He also throws the shot put and discus for the indoor track team and is a pitcher for the high school baseball team.
