UD grad Mike Cecere plays in NFL Europe

12:05 p.m., April 9, 2003--Mike Cecere, a standout defensive lineman for the University of Delaware who graduated in 2001, is now competing in NFL Europe as a member of the Amsterdam Admirals.

The Admirals won their opener 17-15 against the Rhein Fire in a game played April 5 at Arena AufSchalke in Germany.

After leaving UD, where he was a four-time All-Atlantic 10 Football Conference selection, Cecere was signed as an undrafted free agent by the NFL’s New York Jets. He made the New York roster but was released after suffering a shoulder injury three games into the regular season.

In 2002, he spent time with three professional teams–the Carolina Panthers, Jacksonville Jaguars and Washington Redskins–and is competing in the NFL Europe developmental league as a member of the Redskins.
