Wide range of volunteers serve as marshals for Commencement

June 24, 2002--More than 50 UD employees volunteered as marshals for this year’s spring Commencement, coordinating the degree candidate line-up and processionals and greeting and providing information to guests attending the Commencement ceremony.

According to Robert Snyder, assistant director of alumni relations, whose office coordinates the marshals program, the volunteers are largely professional and salaried staff members from offices throughout the University, with the largest coming from the offices of University development and admissions.

“We also had several undergraduate students who served as marshals,” Snyder said. “Most were members of student organizations, including the Blue Hen Ambassadors, Ag Ambassadors, Spirit Ambassadors, Circle K and Phi Sigma Pi. Also, several members of the Newark Senior Center volunteered as marshals. Finally, faculty members served as marshals to lead the degree candidate, alumni delegate and platform party processionals.”
