Five UD students recognized for special academic achievement
 

May 25, 2002--Five members of the University of Delaware Class of 2002 were recognized for achieving the highest cumulative grade index in full-time study for a baccalaureate at the University during UD’s Commencement ceremony May 25.

Recognized at the ceremony by Delaware Gov. Ruth Ann Minner, a member of UD’s Board of Trustees, were Suzanne Biehn of Asheville, N.C., Eric Gentile of Blackwood, N.J., Mandy Hearne of Newark, Del., Matthew Panzer of Omaha, Neb., and Veselin Stoyanov of Sofia, Bulgaria.

Biehn, the daughter of David and Aubrey Biehn, received her degree in biology, with minors in chemistry and medical humanities. She plans to attend medical school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Gentile, the son of Joseph and Patricia Gentile, received a bachelor of science degree in economics with a minor in philosophy. He will soon begin working for Prudential Financial.

Hearne, the daughter of Tom and Mary Lou Hearne, earned her degree in English, with a concentration in ethnic and cultural studies and a minor in women’s studies. Her immediate plans include travel abroad.

Panzer, the son of Leo and Barb Panzer, received his degree in chemical engineering, with a minor in mathematics. This fall, he will begin doctoral studies at the University of Minnesota.

Stoyanov, the son of Sacha and Stoyan Stoyanov, earned his degree in computer and information sciences, with a minor in cognitive science and mathematics. In the fall, he will pursue a master’s degree in computer science at Cornell University.
