Opening the ceremony is the alumni procession, which includes representatives from classes of the 1940s through 2001, representing all segments of alumni living in 78 countries throughout the world. With the Class of 2002, the number of living UD alumni is in excess of 120,000.
Leading the alumni procession are this years recipients of the Alumni Associations Warner and Taylor awards, which recognize the outstanding senior women and man. These graduating seniors are Monica Marchetta, Natalie Miller and David Kovara. (Last December, Kovara received a prestigious Rhodes Scholarshipthe third Rhodes a UD student has received in the last five years, which is more than any other public college or university.)
Graduates come from 41 states in the United States and from 48 countries around the world. They range in age from 20 to 88, with 20 graduates age 60 or older. The oldest bachelors degree recipient is Kathleen Cross Cooper, who just turned 88. She is receiving a degree in art. Cooper graduated from high school in 1933 and began her college career some 40 years later.
May 25 is the birthday for 13 graduates.
