Public reopening scheduled for May 20

The Courtyard by Marriott Newark at the University of Delaware, which closed temporarily in March to support health and safety measures on UD campus, is reopening in May.

For the last two months, the hotel has been used by the University’s Office of Residence Life and Housing as quarantine space for students who had come in contact with individuals who tested positive for COVID-19. Positive actions by UD students – and their response to UD safety measures – have reduced the need for this quarantine space, and, effective May 1, the hotel will begin the return to normal operations.

A professional firm will complete a deep cleaning and fully sanitize the entire facility before hotel staff return to the property.

Public reopening is scheduled for Thursday, May 20, in time to accommodate guests who planned to stay there for Commencement events at UD, May 27-30. Hotel management is reaching out directly to individuals who previously had made reservations at the hotel in May.

As always, the Courtyard by Marriott Newark is following all University, state and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention standards, including wearing masks, social distancing and continuous disinfecting in public spaces, as well as advisory signage and sanitation stations in the lobby. All staff members undergo a health check when they report to work.

To contact the hotel, call 302-737-0900.
