Fashion merchandising majors receive a total of $50,000 in scholarships

Eight fashion merchandising majors in the University of Delaware's College of Arts and Sciences have been awarded competitive scholarships from the prestigious Fashion Scholarship Fund (FSF).

For nearly a decade, students in UD's Department of Fashion and Apparel Studies have been competing in the FSF-sponsored case study competition, a research project highlighting current industry trends. This year’s assignment focused on fashion collaboration, requiring students to develop recommendations for a fashion retailer or brand collaboration with another company, individual or institution that is focused outside of the fashion industry.
UD students Afia Asamoah, Sarah Carlson, Talia Cohen, Courtney Cullen, Emma Davis, Katherine Kornienko, Sabrina Lee and Russell Moy were selected as winners in the 2020 Fashion Scholarship Fund Case Competition for their submissions. Each recipient received a $5,000 scholarship save for Carlson, who placed among the top eight finalists and received a $15,000 scholarship.

The Department of Fashion and Apparel Studies has produced competition winners every year since it began participating. Overall, UD students have won more than $300,000 in FSF scholarships.

As the oldest and foremost fashion-oriented education and workforce development nonprofit in the country, the Fashion Scholarship Fund supports the careers of the country’s most promising fashion students from all backgrounds. It awards over $1.2 million each year to help students succeed in all sectors of the industry: design, merchandising, analytics, retail, tech and supply chain.
