Deadline is April 26 for candidates who want to help new students get started at UD
University of Delaware students can now apply to share their wisdom with the first-year students joining the UD community for the fall semester of 2020.
The leadership team for UD’s 1743 Welcome Days announced an opportunity for a returning undergraduate student to speak at the annual Twilight Induction Ceremony on Monday, Aug. 31, which will welcome thousands of new students for the start of the 2020-21 academic year.
This experience is open to proud Blue Hens who have been actively engaged members of the campus community — in person and now remotely given the changes prompted by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Candidates must be willing to serve as a role model for incoming students and excited to take part in the University’s official welcome ceremony.
Additionally, qualified candidates must:
• Be in good academic and disciplinary standing with the University
• Have and maintain a minimum 2.5 cumulative grade point average
• Possess strong communication skills
• Display school spirit and professionalism
• Be a current UD first-year, sophomore or junior who will be returning to campus in fall 2020
Following an application review and interviews via Zoom with the 1743 Welcome Days leadership team, one highly qualified student will be selected to speak at this year’s ceremony.
The application opened on Monday, April 6. Applications will be accepted until 11:50 p.m. on Sunday, April 26, 2020 and the selected speaker will be notified no later than May 22. Any questions regarding this opportunity may be directed to Brittany Acosta, assistant director of Orientation and Transition Programs via email at otp@udel.edu.
