Biology, CEOE LLCs help students explore their opportunities
The Faculty Meet and Greet, cohosted on Oct. 19 by the University of Delaware office of Residence Life and Housing (RLH), the Biology department and the College of Earth, Ocean and Environment (CEOE), connected students and family members to professors for communication in a comfortable out-of-classroom setting.
According to Christina King, associate director for student engagement and assessment at RLH, the Meet and Greet was in response to parents and family wanting more opportunities to meet faculty related to their student’s programs.
It served as a stepping stone for curious students, who used it as a chance to reach out to professors in the biology department and CEOE.
“I’m not really sure how to narrow down what I want to do,” said Katie Galgano, a first-year student. “Dr. O’Neal [UD Professor in the Geology Department] told me about some research opportunities that might help me figure out what I like and what I don’t through hands-on experience.”
Course recommendations, study abroad opportunities and field work were among many of the conversations shared between, students, family, and staff.
Alyssa Hull, a UD chemist, was hopeful to talk to both current and future students of hers.
“At the ISE Lab, I get to work with a lot of students - it’s my favorite part about my job,” she said. “I’m hoping to see a lot of my current students, and I’m looking forward to engaging with freshmen I might work with in the future.”
