Irvine named interim associate vice provost for professional and continuing studies
George Irvine has been appointed interim associate vice provost for professional and continuing studies, effective Dec. 1. He is currently the director of Corporate Programs and Partnerships in Lerner College.
“George has extensive experience in developing educational programs and leading partnerships with companies and other organizations, as well as within the University,” said Douglas Doren, interim vice provost for graduate and professional education. “We are fortunate to have him take on the associate vice provost role following Jim Broomall’s retirement. While nobody can replace Jim, George will be an outstanding leader for PCS, with his own approach to the role.”
Irvine has been an instructor in the UD School of Public Policy since 2008 and served as assistant director of Organizational Learning Solutions at UD from September 2008 until February 2016. Prior to the latter role, he was a project manager for UD’s Center for International Studies. Before joining UD in 2005, Irvine worked on international development projects in Asia and Eastern Europe for the U.S. Agency for International Development, the Kenan Institute of the Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, the Institute of International Education and the German Marshall Fund of the United States.
Irvine received his bachelor’s degree in history from Wesleyan University, his master’s in international relations from the University of Chicago and his doctorate in urban affairs and public policy from the University of Delaware. His dissertation focuses on the changing public identities of American research universities.
