9:06 a.m., Feb. 25, 2016--Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and author Chris Hedges will speak on “Bringing Justice to Palestine” during a presentation at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 10, in Room 118 Purnell Hall on the University of Delaware campus in Newark.

Sponsored by Students for Justice in Palestine at the University of Delaware, the event is open to the public.

June 6-9: Food and culture series

The 20th annual June Lecture Series at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UD in Wilmington will be held June 6-9. Titled 'June a la Carte,' this year's program focuses on great political documents, feminism, world politics and a Newark cuisine sampler.

Hedges will discuss the recent escalation of violence in Israel-Palestine, the current siege of Gaza, U.S. foreign policy, and peaceful ways to solve the conflict.

Hedges writes and speaks extensively on war, religion, American culture, empire and the conflicts in the Middle East. 

His best-selling books include War is a Force That Gives Us Meaning, American Fascists and Death of the Liberal Class. 

As Middle East bureau chief for The New York Times, Hedges spent seven years reporting on the Middle East and witnessed the carnage and terror in Israel-Palestine at the height of the second intifada. He has reported from more than 50 countries and has also worked for The Christian Science Monitor, National Public Radio and the Dallas Morning News.

Hedges holds a bachelor’s degree in English literature from Colgate University and a master of divinity degree from Harvard University. He has written for TruthDig, Harper’s Magazine, Le Monde, The New Statesman, The New York Review of Books, Adbusters, Granta, Foreign Affairs and other publications.

Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) at the University of Delaware is a diverse group of students organized on democratic principles to promote justice, human rights, liberation and self-determination of the Palestinian people.
