WORK AT THE CAREER CENTER

The Career Center employs students in a variety of intern roles to help support the mission of the office.  Our interns are invaluable members of our team.  A strong emphasis is placed on the professional development of all Career Center Interns.
 

HIRING PROCESS & HOW TO APPLY

Hiring typically takes place during the fall and spring semesters, for roles starting at the beginning of the following semester.
Positions will be posted in Handshake.
 

SPECIFIC ROLES:

The Peer Advisors make-up the largest group of interns in the office.  Their primary responsibility involves reviewing resumes both online in Handshake and in-person during our walk-in resume review hours.  They perform a variety of tasks involving student outreach, career programming, resume critiques, and administrative support.

The Front Desk Assistants provide with coverage at both the first and second floor reception desks. These interns greet visitors, ensure students check in properly for appointments and events, and answer phone calls. They perform a variety of administrative tasks, in addition to providing smiling faces to the front lines of the Career Center.

The Social Media & Marketing (SMM) Interns assist with the marketing of services and events, as well as managing the social media platforms for the department under the guidance of the Marketing & Multimedia Coordinator.  The SMM Interns must be proficient in Microsoft Publisher & Adobe Creative Suite to create marketing materials (invites, posters, flyers, videos etc.).

The Career Partnerships Student Assistant is responsible for employer research utilizing the internet, LinkedIn and various other research tools to identify potential corporate partnerships.  In addition, the intern provides oversight of the Career Ambassador Program and performs record management duties to include analyzing and interpreting data as well as writing executive summaries each semester.  Moreover, the intern is responsible for conducting resume critiques, and facilitating the Career Center presentations in classrooms and to student organizations.  This position assists with the set-up of career related events to include career fairs and networking events.

This position assists the Events Manager in setting up the logistics and managing inquiries for career fairs, information sessions, and other employer-related events on-campus. The Events Student Assistant is responsible for staffing a majority of the information sessions hosted throughout the year. Information Sessions are held in the evenings and typically last 1-2 hours. The student also helps employers set-up at events and assists in tracking student participation at events, particularly those occurring in the evening. This position additionally assists with the creation of different types of activities for employers to engage students in through RSOs and the creation of pre-career fair promotional events. Other tasks include aiding the Events Manager in data entry and management. Note: evening hours are required for this position.
