Job Shadow Programs

The Job Shadow Programs allow students to gain real world experience by connecting with an employer or an alum to learn about a specific industry. Job Shadows can be virtual or in person.

IN-PERSON SHADOWING

In-person job shadowing allows students to gain real world experience by observing an employer or an alum in their workplace. Job shadowing may include workplace tours, meeting with key members of an organization and involvement in daily workplace activities. The in-person job shadowing experience can last between a half and full business day.

VIRTUAL SHADOWING

Virtual shadowing allows students to connect with employers and alumni through 1-hour virtual informational interview sessions. These sessions allow students to learn more about various professions, receive career-related advice, and reflect on the ways in which their education can prepare them for life after college.

The Career Center hosts two job shadow programs: Winter Job Shadow Program & Summer Job Shadow Program

Offered during the month of June, the Summer Job Shadow Program matches students from UD with alumni and employers who are currently working as professionals for an on-the-job, one-day, in-person job shadow and/or a one-on-one, virtual, hour-long informational interview. Applications open in April.

Please note this is not a paid opportunity.

Mentor Collective

The University of Delaware has partnered with Mentor Collective to provide various opportunities for undergraduate students to connect with mentors. Once matched, mentees (students seeking guidance) are paired with mentors who can offer advice, support, and insights related to academic, career, and personal development.

Examples of What Students Can Discuss with Their Mentor

  • How their major may impact professional options
  • How to balance the demands of family, school, and work
  • How to set oneself up for academic, social, and career success
  • How to make connections with peers and professional contacts

How does Mentor Collective work?

Students will be matched with a career mentor based on academics, background, common interests and professional aspirations. To get started, students and mentors will register and complete an online survey to assess interests and experience.

Students should select the program that best aligns with their university status.
