Connecting to the University Network

  • The eduroam Wi-Fi network is recommended for UD students and staff. If you are using the eduroam Wi-Fi network, you do not need to register your computer's, tablet's, or other internet-capable device's Wi-Fi adapter before connecting to eduroam.
  • Visitors to campus should use the UDel_Guest Wi-Fi network. If you plan to use the UDel_Guest Wi-Fi network with a computer, tablet, or phone that has a web browser, log in once on the UDel_Guest network to register that device for use at UD.
  • UD students and staff can connect browserless devices (gaming consoles, printers, etc.) by adding them to the UD Devices Wi-Fi network. (Note: You will need a device with a web browser to start the process).
  • Before using an Ethernet connection to the University network, you must register your computer's Ethernet adapter at the UD Network Page.
  • Students in residence halls may not connect wireless routers to the network.
  • The University network can also be accessed from off campus with a Virtual Private Network (VPN) client.

Network Connection Table

Wireless Connections

Only devices equipped with IEEE 8802.11n and 802.11ac specifications

may wirelessly access the University network

Eduroam UD students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to use eduroam as their primary Wi-Fi network both on campus and while visiting any other eduroam institution. Students, faculty, and staff from other eduroam institutions can connect to UD's eduroam network with their complete institutional email address. The network's level of encryption allows for protected access to confidential, critical information.
Visitor and Guest Access Visitors to campus may use the UDel_Guest Wi-Fi network. University employees can sponsor guests for access to UDel_Guest and other University networks and resources.
Wired (Ethernet) Connections
Ethernet Ethernet connections provide the fastest and most reliable Internet access on campus.
Browserless Connections

Gaming consoles, Wi-Fi printers, Chromecast, Apple TV, and
other browserless devices

Since these devices have no browser, you must start configuring them on an internet-capable device (computer, tablet, smartphone) and complete the registration on the device you are registering.
Special Connections
VPN Using a Virtual Private Network (VPN) client will allow you to log in to University resources usually restricted to on-campus use from off campus.
SFTP/SCP (File Transfers) and SSH Software is available for Windows and Mac for file transfers and SSH connections with copland.udel.edu and other central UNIX servers.
