BECOMING A SECONDARY EDUCATION TEACHER

Welcome to the University of Delaware, where you can experience world-class scholarship, Division I sports, live music and theatre, opportunities for internships, study abroad and so much more.

As you explore our site, please know that behind it are real people who are excited to help you on your journey to becoming a secondary teacher. We are a group of dedicated professionals on campus as well as an extensive alumni network of graduates working in local schools and in far-flung places. Among us are recognized scholars, deeply connected community members, leaders in school districts and teachers of the year. All of us know that you are here because, like us, you love your subject, whether it is biology, English, math or Spanish; but more importantly, you are here because you are moved to share your passion with middle and high school students. You know that education is a wonderful and challenging profession, and you are ready to learn how to be great at it.

There are a variety of accredited secondary teaching programs for you to consider, all of which allow you to spend extensive time in local school districts. At the undergraduate level, the programs are contained in the College of Arts and Sciences. You have options for degrees and licensure within the English, foreign languages, math, music, science and social studies disciplines. Currently, at the graduate level, there is a Special Education MA with a 4+1 option available through the College of Education. All of these programs can lead to licensure in our state and across the country.
