The Department of Geography and Spatial Sciences (GSS) has nationally and internationally recognized faculty who are engaged in cutting-edge research and offer exciting educational opportunities for both undergraduate and graduate students.

GSS provides a unique perspective that seeks to explain patterns of differences and commonality across the human and natural environment. In the Department, students examine the physical properties of the natural environment and the role that human beliefs, activities and decision-making have in shaping the world around us.

The University of Delaware’s Peace and Justice Studies minor. aims to cultivate global citizens who value peace, cooperation, and human rights, and to develop social justice concepts and evaluate their implementation and impact on historical and current public policy in the USA and internationally.

In the Peace and Justice Studies minor, students will engage in international issues and improve their global competence consistent with values of peace and universal conventions on human rights.

The minor consists of a required core introductory course to introduce students to foundational concepts of peace and its role as one of the Sustainability Development Goals, impacting the social, economic, and environmental well-being of people and the planet.

To offer personal well-being to support work in peace and justice, students take one course from a core elective group comprised of mindfulness, yoga or personal leadership.

Then, three electives are then chosen, one each from the following groups:

•   Communication and Leadership

•   Historical Movements, Economics, and Public Policy Making

•   Understanding Diverse Cultures and Philosophies of Ethics

Finally, a required synthesis course GEOG447 Peacemaking and Peacebuilding focuses on peacemaking and peace building skills and structures in international and local contexts.
