Winterthur Program in American Material Culture

A California native, John Bacon became interested in material culture as an undergraduate at Yale. He attended the Winterthur Program in Early American Culture after museum and historic preservation experience in New England; after graduation, he worked at several museums in Philadelphia. He left the museum field in 1995 to attend law school and practiced law for several years. In 2003, he returned to the nonprofit world as Director of Planned Giving at The New York Public Library, where his team generates more than $10 million of support annually. In addition to serving as president of the Philanthropic Planning Group of Greater New York, he serves on the boards of the Greenwich Village Society for Historic Preservation and the Yale Alumni Fund.
