Walk a Mile In Her Shoes MARCH
5:30pm, Shoe Check-Out (Men Only) Trabant MPRs
6:30pm, March on the Green
Let’s get “pumped up!” And no, we’re not talking about lifting weights. Be on the lookout for your favorite fraternity brothers, male professors and staff as they don four-inch bright red stiletto heels to march around the north green. This will be a fun opportunity for men to educate and inspire the campus community to take action in the prevention of sexual violence, and learn about resources for victims on campus like Sexual Offense Support (S.O.S.). A limited number of men-sized high heel shoes will be provided, so come early to reserve your pair of shoes for this popular march (or feel free to bring your own high heels!). As the saying goes, you cannot truly understand another person’s experiences until you have “walked a mile in their shoes.” For more information about the national campaign, visit www.walkamileinhershoes.org. Co-Sponsored by the Office of Equity & Inclusion and Inter-Fraternity Council. Licensed by Frank Baird & Walk a Mile in Her Shoes®, a Venture Humanity, Inc. Project.
Movie: "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo"
7:30pm, Trabant Theatre
This English-language adaptation of the Swedish novel by Stieg Larsson follows a disgraced journalist, Mikael Blomkvist (Daniel Craig), as he investigates the disappearance of a wealthy patriarch's niece from 40 years ago. He is aided by the mysterious Lisbeth Salander, a pierced and tattooed punk computer hacker (Rooney Mara). As they work together in the investigation, Blomkvist and Salander uncover immense corruption beyond anything they have ever imagined. Interwoven throughout this fast-paced crime drama is the troubled story of Lisbeth Salander. Lisbeth’s experiences with childhood trauma, the male dominated legal bureaucracy, and sexual assault form a chilling critique of Sweden’s patriarchal society, and the systems of violence and control that negatively shape the lives of women and girls. The film asks citizens to be accountable for society’s treatment of women and be an active bystander against sexual violence.
Caution: film contains a graphic and sadistic rape scene, as well as other incidents and themes of misogynist violence.

Why is it that we see something happening or we hear something and we want to make the difference, we want to take action to intervene, yet we don't? What is it that gets in the way? Why can't we, in that moment, be the "everyday hero" that we want to be? In this session we'll take a real look at the phenomenon of bystander behavior and how it interferes with the ability to make the difference in a situation. Mike uses live texting for an interactive look at this issue -- along with video clips from an award-winning educational DVD (based on the work of Dr. Alan Berkowitz). You will leave empowered to be an "everyday hero" in your life -- and inspire others to be the same.
