Apply NOW to be a Peer Educator!
Pow! is now accepting applications to become a Peer Educator for Wellspring! Application deadline is Monday, February 20, 2012 at 5:00pm. Read through the info on our website to learn more about becoming a peer educator, training dates, and APPLY NOW!
Training Information
TRAINING IS ESSENTIAL AND REQUIRED for becoming a member of Pow! Training will focus on a variety of material, including health information, programming skill development, and values clarification.
SPRING 2011 PEER EDUCATOR TRAINING will be held on March 2 -5, 2012, and topical breakout sessions have not yet been assigned dates (check back). All times listed below are MANDATORY.
Friday, March 2, 2011, 6:00pm - 9:00pm - Pow! General Training
Saturday, March 3, 2011, 10:00am - 6:00pm - Pow! General Training
Sunday, March 4, 2011, Noon - 6:00pm - Pow! General Training
ABIDE & SUGAR Breakout Trainings have yet to be determined & will be posted as soon as available (See below for more info):
After the general peer educator training weekend, each new member will select a topic of focus and attend mandatory training for this specialty area. The choices are:
SUGAR: Sexual Understanding, Growth, Awareness & Responsibility - peer education about safer sex, STDs, sexual communication, etc.
ABIDE: About Body Image & Disordered Eating -- peer education about body image, disordered eating, fitness & nutrition
MEETINGS: After training concludes, though not mandatory, peer educators are expected to attend weekly meetings. In the Fall, Pow! meetings were held on Thursday nights at 7pm and include free dinner. Spring 2012 Meeting schedule is still being determined, based on the best availability of members.
PLEASE NOTE: You must be able to attend ALL TRAINING SESSIONS (general + your specialty area) in order to participate in Pow!
Application Deadline is Monday, February 20, 2012, by 5:00pm. If you missed the deadline and would still like to apply, call Wellspring at 831-3457 and ask to speak to Nancy Chase as soon as possible to inquire about submitting a late application.
