Simply put, "nutrition" is about feeding yourself to keep well.
You probably learned about it in grade school. So why will you also find it on Wellspring's TO DO LIST for every college student? With today's confusing and contradictory media messages, some of us are never really convinced that we have accurate nutritional information. And even if we do possess the knowledge, with all the pressure, it is sometimes still hard to maintain a healthy nutritional balance and outlook.
And then there are the SPECIAL MITIGATING FACTORS FOR COLLEGE STUDENTS! (College students are always being evaluated in special ways. Feeling special yet?!)
Special Mitigating factors
- How do I make good choices with the limited selections in the dining halls and other on-campus food venues? What really is healthy anyway? I do not like most of what they serve. I eat the same things over and over again.
- I do not have the money for the grocery store, nor the transportation, and I can't afford to eat out all the time just because I don't like the selections provided by my meal plan.
- Is there a "Cooking for Dummies" or "Meal Planning for Dummies" book I can buy? Better yet, is there a guide for how to cook without a kitchen?
- I consume most of my calories when my roommates and I order out late at night or after a party, not to mention the "empty" calories in the alcohol I consume!
- Vitamins? Supplements? Vegetarianism? Oh my!
- Dieting sucks!
- Am I gaining weight? I hate the way I look. If I could just loose a few pounds everything would be better. Everyone here is in better shape than me.
- I drink like 20 cups of coffee a day. That's ok, right?
Are any of the above statements resonating with you? If so, come and visit Wellspring. We can help. Really.
