When can I activate my UDelNet account?
UDelNet Account Activation - Start Dates
Winter 2010 All students who have registered for UD Winter classes may activate after December 22, 2009.
Spring 2010 All students who have registered for UD Spring classes may activate after February 7, 2010.

How do I activate my UDelNet account?

An active UDelNet account provides access to UD e-mail and a host of other services available to UD students.

  1. Review UD Policies:

    • Know your UD ID (number with 5 or 9 characters) and your PIN
      • If you don't know these identifiers and you are on campus, go to the Student Services Building. If you are off campus, call (302) 831-2132. If you are a Continuing Education student, call the Access Center at (302) 831-2741.
    • Choose your UDelNet ID and password:
  3. SOME classes use Sakai@UD or MyCourses (WebCT) course management software. If your class uses Sakai@UD, check the Sakai@UD portal page to determine when you can login to your course. Access to MyCourses (WebCT) classes begins on the FIRST day of classes.
  4. Your UDelNet account is active while you are currently registered for classes. See Access to Computing Resources for information on terms and length of use.

Will I ever be asked for my personal information or password by e-mail?

Don't be phished! Delete these messages.

Remember:
You will NEVER be asked to confirm account information on-line to keep your account active - by the University of Delaware or any other legitimate entity.

  2. If your computer is hacked or infected, your Residence Hall port or Dial-in access will be turned off until the problem is resolved.
  3. Review Information Technologies-User Services Computer Cleaning Policy and the associated charges.

Read UD E-mail
  1. After activating your UDelNet Account, use any internet browser to access UD e-mail at http://mail.udel.edu.
  2. Login with your UDelNet ID and password. Any questions? See Webmail Direct Documentation.
  3. Want to forward your UD mail to another account (AOL, Hotmail, etc.)?  Review the warnings and instructions.

Purchasing a Computer and Software
  1. Review the Technology Solutions Center's recommendations on buying or bringing a computer to campus. For substantial savings, see How do I Purchase Software? BEFORE including popular software with your new computer purchase. You must have an active UDelNet account to purchase specially-priced hardware/software.
  2. BRING TO CAMPUS all computer software disks and documentation/manuals in order to receive support from the computer manufacturer or UD's computer support staff if your operating system and other software has to be reinstalled.
  3. Know what is covered under your computer's warranty and the level of service you should expect, along with the manufacturer's support number.
  4. Students may Register Valuable Property (computer equipment, etc.) with Public Safety.
  5. Before connecting your computer to the campus network, make sure it is not set to share its network connection:
    Windows-Turn off Internet Connection Sharing    Macintosh- Do NOT allow computer to create networks.

What else do I need to know?

  2. Residence Halls information - room/furniture dimensions, floor plans, etc.
  3. Your RA will provide late-breaking news concerning connecting to the UD network.
  4. Set up your room voicemail the day you arrive.
    • Landline phone required for all Residence Hall students.
    • UD students living in a Residence Hall have telephone answering mailboxes associated with the telephone line in their room. The mailbox number is their 7-digit phone number. If you need computing setup help, IT staff will call your room phone and leave you a message. You cannot access these messages until you set up your room voicemail.
