The Winter Commencement ceremony will take place on Sunday, January 12, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the Bob Carpenter Center and will last approximately two hours. The doors will open at 12:30 p.m. To allow ample time for parking and seating, please plan to arrive early; degree candidates and guests should plan to arrive at the Bob Carpenter Center no later than 1:00 p.m. Remember that the traffic situation associated with a ceremony of this size will be congested.
Immediately following the Commencement ceremony, a reception will be held for graduates and guests on the concourse of the Bob Carpenter Center. We encourage graduates to use this opportunity for photographs with fellow graduates, family and friends. Light refreshments will be served.
Decorum and Behavior

Alcoholic beverages are strictly prohibited and University Police will strictly enforce this policy. Balloons are also prohibited. Cellular telephones and pagers should be turned off at the beginning of the Commencement ceremony and should remain turned off for the duration of the ceremony. Degree Candidate Robing and Processional
All degree candidates are required to wear academic caps and gowns for the Commencement procession and ceremony. Prior to the Commencement ceremony, all degree candidates will line up for the procession in the north and south corridors of the Bob Carpenter Center. Upon arrival at the Bob Carpenter Center, degree candidates should look for signs directing them to the robing and processional line-up areas for each College. All degree candidates must be assembled in the appropriate processional line-up areas no later than 1:00 p.m.
At approximately 1:45 p.m., Faculty Marshals will lead the procession of each College to the designated seating areas on the Bob Carpenter Center Arena floor. Degree candidates will be seated, by College, on the Arena floor according to the diagram above, except that all doctoral degree candidates, accompanied by their faculty sponsor(s) when possible, will be seated in the front rows of the Arena floor. Guests may wish to plan their seating in the corresponding sections of the Bob Carpenter Center guest seating areas.
An academic procession is a dignified, semiformal march. The pace of an academic procession is much slower than that of an ordinary walk. Caps are to be worn squarely on top of the head, not tilted, with tassel to the right front side for bachelor's and associates degree candidates and to the left front side for doctoral and master's degree candidates. After bachelors' and associates degrees are conferred, those candidates will move the tassels to the left front side of the caps.
At the conclusion of the Commencement ceremony, there will be a recessional for the platform group followed by the graduates. Guests are requested to remain standing at their seats until the recessional has been completed. Graduates should then join their families on the Concourse (upper level) for refreshments and photo opportunities.
