New Members

Because the Executive Committee is the decision-making body of the coalition and the broader coalition meetings have not been well attended for some time, it was suggested that the Executive Committee add members to reflect the community sectors required by the Drug Free Communities grant, and that the broader group be included in communications, but that it not meet on a regular basis.  The sectors include: business, civic/volunteer group, healthcare professionals, law enforcement, media, religious/fraternal organization, school, state/local government, youth-serving organization, other substance abuse reduction organization, parent, youth.  Suggestions were made for each category and who the logical person would be to make the request.

Attached is a grid of current and proposed membership.  Current members need to approach potential members and see if they 1.) are interested in learning more about USA, and 2.) could attend the January 23rd meeting to learn more about USA and potentially join as a member of the Executive Committee.  PLEASE CHECK THE GRID TO SEE IF YOU NEED TO INVITE SOMEONE TO ATTEND.

Town Hall Meetings, Part 3

Rather than participate as a coalition in this year’s Town Hall Meetings, USA volunteered to act as a conduit to pass the information along to schools and other partners.  The meetings will again take place around the last week in March and USA has offered to assist in planning, et cetera.  Five schools will be participating—Sanford, Salesianum, Dickenson, Newark (Building Bridges Coalition), and Ursuline.  Meetings will also be held by the Latin American Community Center (LACC), Jewish Family Services (JFS), and the Dover Caring Communities Coalition (DCCC).

USA is providing coordination between the state agency organizing this year’s Town Hall Meetings and school communities participating.

Newsletters

Newsletters need to be on a regular schedule, as well as some other contacts with the schools and broader coalition to reestablish USA’s presence.

Newsletters will go out at the beginning of the month by email, so they can be included in school publications, and Prevention faxes will be scanned and sent out to schools around the 15th of the month.

USA mail

Communications from USA currently come from either Roberta or Mary, rather than a unified coalition email address.  A single email address would be less confusing and provide a better image of the organization.

An email address will be requested from the University

Of Delaware for USA with Mary and Roberta as senders/receivers.

Coalition Meetings

Since coalition meetings have not been functional, there will be a moratorium on holding them until a specific purpose arises.  Also, new topics may need to be identified for the Parent Chats.

Meetings of the broader coalition will be put on hold until further notice.
