Got Career Advice?

Inquiring minds (current students) want to know

The job search can be a daunting and overwhelming process—especially for those who have never done it before. Luckily, current students have access to UD’s Career Advising Network and the 1,600-plus alumni willing to share their insights and expertise.

From reviewing resumes and cover letters, to hosting mock interviews, to just talking shop and letting students pick their brain, UD CAN members serve as professional sounding boards for more than 1,100 students in need of advice, giving between 30-60 minutes of their time to the handful of Blue Hens who find them through the University’s online network.

“I enjoy helping others, particularly in a professional capacity, and the program satisfies that for me,” says investment banker Aaron Chockla, EG07. Due to a demanding work schedule, he limits his interactions to one student a month, but usually spends 15-30 minutes reviewing any documents sent in advance, and then an additional 30-60 talking to them by phone.

For Samantha Antopol, AS12, UD CAN provides an easy-to-use, digital service that didn’t exist during her time on campus. “I wish I had more people to talk to leading up to graduation,” says Antopol, who didn’t have a job lined up when she left UD. “It’s exciting to talk to people who are just starting their careers. Hopefully I’ve helped calm their fears.”

“It’s a rewarding experience,” adds Deloitte account lead Melissa Sweeney, AS01, who has spoken to more than two dozen students through UD CAN. “The students come from different majors, different backgrounds, but they’re all proactive and goal-oriented.”
