The UD apiary is home to an estimated 2 million honey bees, all of which are an active part of the teaching, research and outreach programs in the Department of Entomology and Wildlife Ecology.
Assistant Professor Deborah Delaney (left, with Kathleen Evans, ANR15M) oversees the apiology program in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources and teaches students how to steward their own hive and help with honey harvest and extraction. Honey changes from year to year, depending on the amount of rainfall during the season and what flowers are producing the nectar.
UD produces its own “Dare to Bee!” honey, sold exclusively at the UDairy Creamery.
