Sue Johnson, AS00, who honed her vocal talent in the all-female University Singers vocal group at UD, was a member of the papal choir that sang for the mass along the Benjamin Franklin Parkway in Philadelphia during the World Meeting of Families this fall. “I think this pope speaks to a different generation, a generation that I want my kids to be a part of,” Johnson says of Pope Francis, who has been hailed by people across faiths for his comfort and compassion to all.

“One of the things that stuck out to me most was the nature of the crowd. Given the amount of people, I was so blown away by the level of general kindness and warmth,” she said. “There was no jockeying for position to get the best view, no pushing and shoving, there wasn’t any aggressiveness. I think the nature of who the pope is really helped in that regard.”
