DEPARTMENTS

Hall of Fame mascot YoUDee has done it again. For the third straight year, the first mascot in the First State took first place in the open mascot finals at Walt Disney World in Florida.

The fun-loving icon of Blue Hens everywhere joined the UD cheerleading and dance teams in turning in top-10 performances at the 2013 Universal Cheerleaders Association and Universal Dance Association college cheerleading and dance national championships in January.

Kenny Siebold, the mascot team captain, says the pressure to perform a great routine was intense: “Winning the nationals is everything to me and to our team. Being able to come home with a win once again meant the world to us.”

Many former YoUDees have gone on to perform as professional mascots, including Clutch of the Houston Rockets, Reggy of Raymond Entertainment Group, Poe of the 2013 Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens, Slapshot of the Washington Capitals, Screech of the Washington Nationals, AirSwoop of the Philadelphia Eagles, Archie of the Reno Aces and Wool E of the Durham Bulls.

At this year’s national competitions, UD’s cheerleaders finished second in Division I competition and sixth in the world championship’s large coed division. Stepping out against strong contenders, the dance team earned fourth and fifth place honors, respectively, in Division I hip-hop and jazz competitions.
