ALUMNI | To better serve the needs and interests of alumni, the Office of Alumni Relations recently commissioned a comprehensive survey of alumni, which 4,500 Blue Hens completed. The results have already helped guide Alumni Relations programming and planning for the next year.

“The feedback was fantastic, and it will definitely help shape what we offer to alumni,” says Justine Talley-Beck ’98, associate director of alumni relations. “Plus, the overall response rate was exciting because it showed us that alumni care and that they are interested in what we offer.”

Alumni who completed the survey were entered into a drawing for two $100 gift cards, which were won by Amy Stull, BE ’04, and Don Brill, AS ’85.

Following are a few of the survey results.

WHY DON'T ALUMNI ATTEND UD EVENTS?

The No. 1 reason listed was “time,” followed by, “do not know anyone,” “geographical distance” and “family or job commitment.”

Talley-Beck says the Alumni Relations office understands that not everyone can return to campus. “So we are fortunate to have alumni club boards across the country assisting us in organizing events and programs in their cities,” she says.

“Also, we strive to have a variety of activities that can accommodate many interests. For example, this year we have planned several family-friendly activities and community events.”

HOW DO ALUMNI LEARN OF UD NEWS?

At the top of the list was “alumni magazine,” followed by “email,” “University website” and “invitations to activities.”

Many survey respondents said they were not aware of the activities and services the Office of Alumni Relations offers, Talley-Beck says, adding, “The majority of our communication is by email, so we encourage alumni to visit www.UDconnection.com so they can get all the news.”

WHAT WOULD YOU MOST LIKE ALUMNI RELATIONS TO PROVIDE THAT IS NOT CURRENTLY OFFERED?

Advance notice of events in my area.

A calendar of alumni events is online at www.UDconnection.com/events. In addition, each alumni club has its own page that lists its specific alumni events.
