How do I apply for a position?
The University of Delaware only accepts resumes and applications through the on-line system.  You can apply for a job from any computer with Internet access.  If you do not have a computer with Internet access, the Office of Human Resources has computers specifically designated for online job applicants. If you require special accommodations, please contact Human Resources.

Does the University conduct criminal background checks on new employees?
Yes.  Effective January 1, 2011, the University of Delaware implemented a criminal background check policy for all selected candidates.  A selected candidate must have a criminal background check completed prior to beginning employment.  A selected candidate who refuses to undergo a criminal background check shall be deemed ineligible for employment and shall not be hired.

Where would an applicant go to get answers to questions on how or what should be included in the application?  Is there an on-line help feature?

How will I know if my application/resume was submitted successfully?
A confirmation e-mail will be sent to your e-mail address.

How long does the hiring process take?
The hiring process varies in length by position and hiring department.  You will be contacted by the hiring department via letter or e-mail to notify you about the outcome of the search either way.

How long does it take before someone gets back to me about the position(s) I applied for?

Can I contact the hiring department directly?
 All applications must be routed through Human Resources and submitted through the on-line application system.  The hiring department will contact you via letter or e-mail to notify you about the outcome of the search either way.

How will I know if the position for which I applied has been filled?
As an applicant you will be contacted by the hiring department via letter or e-mail to notify you about the outcome of the search either way.

I saw a job posted on the site yesterday and cannot find it today.  Can I still apply? 
No,  If the job posting is not visible on the website, the hiring department is no longer accepting applications.

How frequently do you update the job postings?
Job postings are updated on the UD employment website, www.udel.edu/udjobs , as positions become available.

How do I apply for a temporary position?
You cannot use the online system to apply for a temporary position.  Please follow the instructions in the job posting.

If I have additional questions once I apply for a job, are there staff members available in Human Resources to answer questions?
Yes, you may contact the Office of Human Resources at 302-831-2171. 

How do I register?
Registration is part of the application process. Click the Apply Now button from any job posting and complete the registration process by creating a User Name and Password, and providing a valid Email address.  You must register and select a User Name and Password for use on this site; note that all employment process correspondence is sent to the email address you provide. Free email accounts can be created through Hotmail, Yahoo! and others.

I don't have a resume, what should I do?
In order to apply for the majority of positions at the University of Delaware, you'll need to start with a resume.  For more information about creating a resume, please visit the following websites:

Where do I begin the application process?
To begin the application process, go to www.udel.edu/udjobs and click on the job you are interested in.  If you are a new user, you will be prompted to register.  Please remember to select a User Name and P assword that you will easily remember.

How do I include my cover letter?
Combine your resume (or c.v.) and cover letter in a single document and upload it as part of the application process. Begin by selecting Apply Now on a job posting and follow the prompts to upload a new resume.  A cover letter cannot be submitted separately.

What resume/cover letter document formats are accepted on the site?
An electronic (.DOC, .DOCX, .RTF, .PDF, .TXT or .HTML) copy of the cover letter, resume or CV you wish to attach to your application (scanned documents cannot be processed using this system).

How can I tell if my resume/application was accepted?
The system sends emails confirming successful application.

What happens to my application after I submit it?
 All applications will be reviewed and screened against position qualifications.   Hiring managers will contact candidates who best meet the position requirements.

How can I complete an application I started but have not completed?
Log into the Careers Homepage, click on the Applications link in the My Career Tools box to see the list of jobs openings for which you have applied. Look for the application you saved by locating the Job number and then click on the "Not Applied" link in the application column to complete the process. Note: The job must be currently posted on the website to complete the saved application.

Do I have to include references?
Yes, follow the instructions in the job posting.

Will the system time-out?
Yes.    Remember to save your application, if you are interrupted during the process.

Can I change, update, or edit documents that have been submitted?
Once documents have been submitted, they cannot be modified.  The only information that can be changed is information in your profile, such as address, e-mail address, and phone number. If you need to update information on your application or resume after it has been submitted, you will need to upload a new resume and complete a new application.

Can I see a list of all the Job Openings for which I have applied?
Yes.  After you log into the Careers, click on the Applications link in the My Career Tools box to see the list of jobs openings for which you have applied.

I've misplaced my User Name and/or Password; how can I get my User Name/Password reset ?
If you misplace your User Name and/or Password, the system can reset it for you. When you are asked to Login, click Login Help, and choose an Option. If you 'Forgot your Password', enter your User Name and click Get New Password. If you 'Forgot your User Name', enter your Email Address and click Find User Name. In either case, the updated information is sent to you via email.

What are the Terms and Agreements?
In order to submit the application information, you must certify that the information you are providing is true and accurate. If you agree to the terms, the Submit button becomes available for you to choose. If you do not agree, you can click Cancel, or Return to Previous Page to update any applicable information.

Note: At the end of the application process, the system returns you to the My Applications home page on the secondary site. This page contains information about the jobs you have applied for, the resumes that have been used, any attachments that you have uploaded, and provides access to your Profile.

Will I be able to submit samples of my work (writing, art work, etc.)?
If the hiring department wishes to have individuals submit writing/art samples, the name and address of where individuals are to mail their samples will be included in the job posting.  Such samples cannot be submitted electronically using the on-line application process.
