4568 Admissions Counselor (Level 12) Admissions Office

DEADLINE: July 6, 2009

QUALIFICATIONS:  Bachelor’s Degree and two years directly responsible job-related experience. Experience in a college admissions or financial aid office preferred. Experience in a college academic advisement position, as a secondary school guidance counselor or teacher preferred. Effective written and oral communication and organizational skills. Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish is desirable. Present effectively to small and large groups. Effective interpersonal skills and ability to work with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Knowledge of university organization and academic recruitment and advisement policies, procedures, systems, regulations and standards. Multi-task and work independent as a team member to achieve common goals. Exercise sound judgment and make independent decisions. Proficient computer skills and use of presentation software.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Valid driver’s license and regular access to private reliable means of transportation. Position will require weekends, extended hours, and extensive travel.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Advise students and families regarding educational opportunities and options, admission and other requirements, policies and procedures, transfer of credit, and financial assistance, as appropriate. Serve as a member of the Admission Committee, including the regional committee that reviews applications from the counselor’s assigned travel territory. Network and develop collaborative relationships with assigned high schools. Speak to groups and individual students, and meet with school officials to develop partnerships between the University and other institutions throughout an assigned geographic region. Serve as the primary contact and reader of applications for admission from students who attend those high schools.
