Results of UDFSC Members at Sectional Competitions

APOLOGIES FIRST

I would like to apologize for neglecting to recognize some of our skaters for their accomplishments this year. The omissions were truly unintentional.

Andrea Gottesman placed 4th in the Intermediate Ladies Competition at the South Atlantic Regional Competition. This achievement allowed her to compete at the Eastern Sectional Competition.

Andre LeBlanc along with his partner, Wendy Mangiagli, placed 1st at the Pacific Coast Sectional Championships. This allowed them to compete at the U.S. National Figure Skating Championships.

Congratulations Andrea and Andre.

U.S. National Results

The University of Delaware Figure Skating Club had a large showing at the U.S. National Figure Skating Championships held in Philadelphia. Here are the names of the skaters who medaled this year:

Barbara Heilman and the rest of the Board of Directors would like to thank everyone at UDFSC who volunteered their time in Philadelphia.

EASTERN PRECISION SECTIONAL RESULTS

The Eastern Precision Sectionals were held January 30th through February 1st in Fitchburg, Massachusetts.

UDFSC, as usual, had large number of teams participating. Following are the results:

Youth Introductory Icicles 3rd
Junior The Skating Edge 4th
Senior Precisionaires 4th
Open Adult Diamondaires 2nd
Adult Masters Delaware Diamonds 1st

The Skating Edge, Precisionaires, Diamondaires, and Delaware Diamonds will next head west to San Diego for the U.S. National Precision Team Championships. Good luck to you all.

If anyone involved with precision would like more information included in the newsletter about the precision teams and their activities, please either give the information to Betty Garvin, the Precision liaison on the Board of Directors or leave a note in Kathy Watt's mailbox in the hallway of the Fred Rust Arena.

Attention to anyone interested in Precision Skating!

Tryouts will be held on March 30th and April 6th. The time is 7:15 p.m. to 8:50 p.m. The cost is $30, which covers both nights. You must attend both nights of tryouts. Checks are to be made payable to UDFSC.

TEST SESSIONS

Please note that the club does reserve the right to change the date a test application is due or the date of a test session. There are number of reasons for this such as inclement weather, too few tests, not being able to obtain the appropriate level judge or other happenings at the rink, such as a public session.

If you know or think that you may be testing on the next session, submit your application as early as possible. DON'T WAIT FOR THE DUE DATE. Remember, if your decide not to test, as long as the test chairman has written notice one (1) week prior to the test date, you will receive a refund.

The May test session is tentatively scheduled for Friday, May 1st. Volunteers are needed to play music, monitor, be a runner. If you are interested in helping, please leave a note with your name and phone number in Kathy Watts' mailbox. A couple of hours of assistance is really appreciated.

SIGNATURES

As another competition season begins, skaters will be looking for someone to sign their competition applications.

REMEMBER - As long as the competition you are planning to enter is a non-qualifying one, you only need to attach a copy of the permission letter that is sent to you along with your USFSA card. That serves as the needed signature.

If you have misplaced your letter and need a signature; please put the application in the mailbox marked "NEEDS TO BE SIGNED BY A CLUB OFFICER". Don't put your application in any one board member's mailbox. Not every board member has the authority to sign applications.

CLUB PHONE

The club phone number is (302) 831-4686. If you have misplaced your permission letter or have any other concerns, please call us. As a reminder, the club phone may only be checked once a day, but your calls will be returned.

To better help us serve you, please leave your name and phone number first when calling the club. The time allotted for a message is only 20 seconds. If you wait until the end of your message to leave your phone number, we may not get all of it and won't be able to call you back.

Newsletter

This is your newsletter. If there is anything that you think may be of interest to the club membership, please let me know. I can be reached either at the club phone, or by leaving a note in my mailbox, or by contacting me at home. My home phone number is (302) 366-8210. Please don't call after 9:30 p.m.

I would really appreciate some input from the skaters, coaches or parents.
