March Roundtable: Making grading easier
February 21, 2018
Learn how to make grading less painful at March 2 discussion
The University of Delaware First Friday Roundtable series will hold its March session from 3:30-5 p.m., Friday, March 2, in room 208 Gore Hall. These monthly discussion sessions provide an opportunity for all who teach at the University to explore teaching, learning and assessment practices and issues.
As the midpoint of the semester approaches, many faculty and instructors are searching for ways to streamline their grading and feedback practices in order to efficiently and effectively communicate with students.
This roundtable will begin with a short introduction from Nancy O’Laughlin of Academic Technology Services, who will demonstrate the Canvas Learning Management System SpeedGrader function. Canvas includes many time-saving features, and SpeedGrader is one of the most popular tools used by faculty to provide quick grading and meaningful feedback.
In addition to learning about how to use SpeedGrader, attendees will hear from Jon Cox, assistant professor of art and design, who will share his successful strategies for large courses and providing peer feedback.
The remainder of the program will allow participants to choose from a variety of info-stations, where they can learn more about easy grading strategies such as: rubrics, multimedia feedback and small stakes assessments. Participants will be able to leave this roundtable with the grading and feedback skills they need to effectively manage the challenges of mid-semester.
Registration is required and may be completed online.
