Nationally recognized COSM safety training offered June 5-9 in Newark
The nationally known Certificate for Occupational Safety Managers (COSM) course will be offered for the first time in Delaware this summer, through a partnership between the University of Delaware’s Division of Professional and Continuing Studies (PCS) and the Delaware Valley Safety Council (DVSC). The intensive five-day course takes place June 5-9 in Newark.
Taught by an authorized Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) outreach trainer, the program is designed for managers and supervisors who are responsible for safety administration in their workplace. Topics include essentials of safety management, strategic planning and evaluation, risk management, safety finance, effective safety communication, injury management, and incentives and discipline.
COSM is part of a nationally-recognized series of occupational safety programs and professional designations originating with the Certified Occupational Safety Specialist (COSS) program. COSS is the only non-degreed program to receive a national endorsement from the American Council for Construction Education (ACCE), the certifying body for construction education for colleges, universities and technical/trade schools. The program is also endorsed by the American Association of Safety Councils.
“The main goal of this program is to provide workplace safety practitioners with the training they need in order to manage safety at their jobsites or workplaces,” explains Brian McClafferty, DVSC executive director.
The upcoming COSM program consists of five full-day sessions, June 5-9, at UD’s Professional and Continuing Studies location at 501 South College Ave., Newark.
Other upcoming occupational safety programs offered through PCS and DVSC include Certified Occupational Safety Specialist (COSS) in August and October and another advanced offering, COSS: Safe Supervisor, offered in September, both taking place in Newark.
