Special activities celebrate UD employees
A special week of activities designed to celebrate employees of the University of Delaware included everything from a campuswide picnic to special team-based and family-focused activities to a trip to see the Wilmington Blue Rocks in action at Frawley Stadium.
This year’s festivities, held June 5-9, were organized by Human Resources and Employee Health and Wellbeing.
The week kicked off with the popular UDid It picnic, which offered the community a chance to have lunch, reconnect and celebrate the completion of another academic year.
The picnic included the second annual drawing for UDeserve It, an employee recognition program honoring individuals who have gone above and beyond and have had a positive impact on others. Quarterly nominees were entered into a drawing with all the others from throughout the year, and three names were drawn for monetary drawings at the picnic. Recognized were Jaclyn Tatnall, assistant director of admissions, $400 prize; Christine Schultz, associate director of the University Honors Program, $250 prize; and Andre Smith, digital communication specialist in the College of Arts and Sciences, $100 prize.
On Tuesday, June 6, Self-Care day was a huge hit. More than 200 employees took a break from their desks to enjoy a massage. Two well-attended yoga classes on The Green that allowed employees to practice mindfulness, connect with their colleagues and take in the sunshine outdoors. Paws for People also attended the event so employees could enjoy a few dogs and engage in pet therapy.
A Team Spirit day photo contest was launched on Wednesday, June 7. Many teams proudly demonstrated their blue and gold spirit. The winners -- the team from the Department of Environmental Health and Safety -- will get an interactive wellbeing day with their colleagues. The Employee Health and Wellbeing team is looking forward to engaging EHS in the upcoming months.
Thursday, June 8, focused on nutrition and the different heritage and cultures of the UD community. Recipes for the e-cookbook are still being collected and can be sent to wellbeing@udel.edu.
The week concluded on Friday, June 9, at Employee Appreciation Night with the Blue Rocks at Frawley Stadium in Wilmington. In addition to watching the Blue Rocks play the Buies Creek Astros, participants enjoyed a picnic buffet dinner in the third base picnic area, and post-game fireworks topped off the evening.
