Stress-free writing and grading

Location for Feb. 22 WAC workshop changed to Morris Library
The University Writing Centers and the Center for Teaching and Assessment of Learning will offer four Writing across the Curriculum (WAC) workshops on Wednesdays in the spring semester.
These workshops will help University of Delaware faculty incorporate writing into their classes to meet their course goals.
The Feb. 22 workshop will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m. in Morris Library Room 116A (this is a change from the original location). The remaining workshops will be held from noon to 1:30 in Faculty Commons (116 Pearson Hall).
The first session, “What’s Writing Got to Do with It? Aligning Writing Assignments to Course Goals,” will be held on Feb. 22. Participants will learn how to create writing assignments for their courses, so they should bring their syllabi. Register.
The next session will be on March 8: “Writing to Promote Thinking/Learning: Informal Writing Assignments.” This session will emphasize that writing does not have to be time-consuming to students or the faculty member; participants will draft a low-stakes writing assignment for their class. Register.
On March 22, “Beyond the Research Paper: Formal Writing Assignments” will be addressed. This session will focus on assignments that will encourage students to write engaging formal papers in a variety of disciplines. Once again, participants can use workshop time to draft an assignment for their class. Register.
The workshop series will conclude with “But How Would I Grade That? Responding to Student Writing” on April 12. Participants will learn ways to assess student writing efficiently and effectively, while still having time for the rest of their work. Register.
Faculty who attend all workshops will receive a gift basket and will have priority consideration when applying for a Writing Fellow in the future. Writing Fellows are peer tutors who are trained by the University Writing Centers and assigned to tutor a specific class. Throughout the semester, the Writing Fellow communicates with the instructor and assists students with the writing assignments in that course.
