“We have assembled a dynamic group of faculty and staff members with diverse perspectives and experiences whose insights will be invaluable in selecting the right candidate for this important role,” said Kinservik. “The academic affairs role is crucial at any university, but has an even greater significance here at UD given the learner-centered objectives of our strategic plan Delaware Will Shine.”
Lynn Okagaki is currently serving as interim deputy provost for academic affairs after Nancy Brickhouse assumed the post as chief academic officer at Saint Louis University in Missouri this summer. Okagaki came to the Provost’s Office from UD’s College of Education and Human Development, where she has been dean since 2011.
Members of the committee, in addition to Kinservik, are Kathleen Pusecker, director of educational assessment in UD’s Center for Teaching and Assessment of Learning; Arthur Trembanis, associate professor of oceanography in the School of Marine Science and Policy; Nerissa Brown, associate professor of accounting in the Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics; Jennifer Buckley, assistant professor of mechanical engineering; John Pelesko, professor and associate dean for the natural sciences in the College of Arts and Sciences; Jama Allegretto, associate director of the University Honors Program; and Mia Papas, assistant professor in the Department of Behavioral Health and Nutrition.
The deputy provost for academic affairs is part of the senior leadership team for the University of Delaware, with oversight of a number of academic and administrative units, including the Institute for Global Studies, Confucius Institute, Honors Program and TRIO programs. The deputy provost’s major responsibilities include academic program planning and review, working with the Faculty Senate and deans to establish and review academic programs, working with the colleges in the design and delivery of general education, and also overseeing university-wide initiatives to assure high-quality academic support services across the University.
