Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering offers fall seminar series

11:38 a.m., Sept. 8, 2015--The University of Delaware Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering has announced its 2015 fall seminar series.

The series will feature seven presentations, all of which will begin at 10 a.m. Fridays in 102 Colburn Laboratory unless otherwise specified.

Chronic wounds

UD's Millicent Sullivan and Kristi Kiick have received a $1.4 million grant from the National Institutes of Health for research that could provide a new approach to the treatment of chronic wounds.

Prof. Heck's legacy

The American Chemical Society is highlighting the legacy of the late Nobel laureate Richard Heck, the Willis F. Harrington Professor Emeritus of Chemistry at the University of Delaware with a digital tribute on its publications website.

Presentations are scheduled as follows:

  • Friday, Oct. 2, Costas Maranas (Penn State University), “Optimization Driven Reconstruction, Analysis and Redesign of Metabolism.”
  • Friday, Oct. 23, Israel Wachs (Lehigh University), “Heterogeneous Catalysis Research in the 21st Century: Application of Operando Molecular Spectroscopy.”
  • Friday, Oct. 30, Jean-Philippe Tessonnier (Iowa State University), “Heterogeneous Catalyst Design for Biomass Conversion in the Condensed Phase.”
  • Friday, Nov. 6, Alissa Park (Columbia University), “Towards Sustainable Energy and Materials: Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage.”
  • Friday, Nov. 20, Jack A. Gerster Memorial Lecture, Ann Lee (Genentech), “Innovations in Technical Development and Manufacturing of Targeted Oncology Drugs.”
  • Friday, Dec. 11, Scott Shell (University of California, Santa Barbara), “Thermodynamic Balancing Acts in Self-Assembly at Interfaces.”
