"My thanks to Lynn Sydnor-Epps for serving as interim director during the search process," Thompson added, "and to the search committee -- chaired by Kathleen Kerr, executive director of residence life and housing -- for its diligent work."

“I am excited to join the University of Delaware and to work with the dedicated staff members in the Career Services Center," Elton said. "By collaborating with faculty, alumni, parents, employers and other members of the UD community, we can empower our undergraduate and graduate students to achieve career success, expand employment opportunities, and make our office a recognized leader in career services nationally."

At Davidson, Elton expanded its Center for Career Development, enhancing industry-focused programming, creating career networks to connect students with alumni and parents, improving career advising, developing assessment metrics and establishing a successful employer engagement model.

Through his work, the rate of student engagement with the center increased to more than 70 percent. He also was responsible for more than doubling student employment opportunities through parents and alumni connections by building collaborative relationships with the president’s office, members of the Board of Trustees, senior leadership in student and academic affairs, and parent and alumni development teams.

Before Davidson College, Elton was associate director of the Oberlin College and Conservatory Career Center and assistant director and liaison to the College of Engineering at the Villanova University Career Center.

Currently chair of the Liberal Arts Career Network (LACN) Benchmarking and Assessment Committee, he has held numerous positions in the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) and the Eastern Association of Colleges and Employers (EACE).

A graduate of Ohio State University, he holds a master’s degree in counselor education from Pennsylvania State University.

Elton replaces Matthew Brink, who became assistant executive director at NACE in April.
