Name UD's 3-D printing center
Prize awaits person who submits winning name for UD's new 3-D printing center
10:50 a.m., Sept. 28, 2015--The University of Delaware is joining the ranks of universities that offer a full-fledged 3-D printing center. But UD's center, housed in Smith Hall, does not yet have a name.
The University community is invited to enter a contest to name the center. Contest submissions are due by the end of the day Oct. 7, and the winner will be notified by email on Oct. 21.

UD's 3-D printing service will be introduced at the UD Tech Fair on Oct. 28. The 3-D printing center will be available on a test basis shortly after that, with a grand opening early in 2016.
Over the past few years, 3-D printing has experienced explosive popularity among professionals and curious onlookers alike.
UD’s center will feature two CubePro Duo printers, three Cube printers and one Micro printer. It will also be equipped with an iSense 3-D scanner, used to turn photos into physical pieces, and a Touch 3-D stylus, used to physically model 3-D designs by “feeling” the screen.
When fully operational in spring 2016, the center will allow faculty and staff members and students the opportunity to experiment with 3-D modeling, scanning and printing. One of the key goals of the center will be to support faculty and students with course-based projects.
Faculty, staff and students are reminded to submit their name ideas for the University's 3-D printing center. The winner of the competition will get a “3-DMe” figurine printed in a choice of styles, including Ghostbusters, NBA, Star Trek and more.
