2:34 p.m., Nov. 2, 2015--Nearly 400 faculty and staff members stopped by University of Delaware Tech Fair on Oct. 28 at the Trabant University Center to learn more about the technology made available to employees and departments by a variety of University units.

The theme for this year's Tech Fair was "Play IT safe," so it was fitting that the topic generating the most buzz at the event was two-factor authentication (2FA), an important extra step that University employees can take to protect their accounts and UD information.

FYI Stories

June 6: UDid It! Picnic

All UD faculty and staff members are invited to attend the annual UDid It! employee appreciation picnic, set from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m., Monday, June 6, on The Green.

2FA protects you

If you are using two-factor authentication (2FA), even if a hacker has your password, your information is probably safe.

"About 30 employees signed up for 2FA at our table," said Tyrone Smith, IT Network and Systems Services.

Other topics that generated a lot of attention included

In addition, faculty and staff took advantage of the opportunity to ask questions of staff from UD Information Technologies and all the other participating UD units.

For example, one staff member unable to log in to the secure eduroam Wi-Fi network with his smartphone was thrilled to have his problem resolved by an IT Client Support and Services staff member.

Winners of the Tech Fair door prizes were:

  • Lori Nesnow, Chemistry and Biochemistry: Go Pro Bundle
  • Beth Chajes, Delaware Environmental Institute: Biz hub Printer
  • Ryan Heberling, College of Engineering: Dell Bag
  • Jaclyn Carter, Professional and Continuing Studies, and Cheryl McFadden, HR Records Management: Starbucks Gift cards.

Those who attended Tech Fair 2015 are invited to complete an online evaluation of the event to help with planning for Tech Fair 2016.
