V2G technology is an innovation of renewable energy research that enables electric vehicles to communicate with the electric grid in order to recycle stored battery power.

The owners of these electric vehicles would be paid for the power that they return, which is a benefit that could encourage demand for electric vehicles.

Kempton is credited with the creation of the V2G concept and has submitted four patents in relation to it. He fulfills this research as the research director for UD’s Center for Carbon-free Power Integration.

A professor in the School of Marine Science and Policy, Kempton holds a joint appointment in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.

In addition to electric vehicle research, Kempton also pursues the topic of offshore wind turbines as a source of renewable energy. He is currently a member of the Research and Development Subcommittee of the Offshore Wind Working Group of the American Wind Energy Association.

More about Green Liaisons Sustainability Lecture Series
