Unsung Hero

The One Love Foundation has announced that University of Delaware men's lacrosse standout Elijah Conte has been selected as a winner of the 2016 YRL Unsung Hero Award.

UD sophomore Kameron Wong described the team’s final regular competition of the season, saying, “Not just SUNY, but I feel that every competition I spend with this team, we get closer and closer. There's something magic that happens when you spend time with such a supportive group of people, and I'm so lucky to have people like this team in my life.”

“Throughout the competition, our teammates were incredibly supportive of one another,” said Aly Rasmussen, UDFS competition chair. “We faced tough competition but everyone's encouragement kept us strong. With one competition left this season, we continue to work together to be better every day.

UDFS will host the 2016 national intercollegiate championships April 9-10, sharing home ice at the Fred Rust Ice Arena with the nation's top teams, showcasing collegiate figure skating to the UD community, and defending its 2015 title.

Reflecting on the competition and the season as a whole, Hannah Kimberly, UDFS vice president, said, “I feel that this team has really improved and grown together as the season has progressed, which was really evident this past weekend. Each of our skaters performances showed off the hard work that has been put in since our last competition … our team displayed a clear improvement in unity this past weekend, as we were more supportive of each other than I have ever seen. Everyone was there for their teammates, whether it meant calming them down when they were nervous or upset or cheering them on throughout the entirety of their performance.”

Kimberly spoke of how excited she is for her final colligate competition in April at UD. “As a senior going into my last intercollegiate championships, I’m really looking forward to competing on home ice and knowing that my team will be there for me,” she said. “This team has defined a large part of my college experience, and I can’t wait to cheer them all on at our home rink and be able to show our friends, family, classmates, professors and faculty what intercollegiate skating is all about.”
