10:13 a.m., March 16, 2016--The University Museums at the University of Delaware will present “The Edward L. Loper Sr. Collection: A Centennial Exhibition,” on view from April 6 through May 15 at the Old College West Gallery.

Featuring paintings by Edward L. Loper Sr. from the University Collection and opening one day before what would have been Loper’s 100th birthday, this exhibition offers an opportunity for new audiences – as well as his students, friends and others who knew him – to see more than 20 works on display by one of Delaware’s most beloved painters.

Events Stories

June 5: Blue Hen 5K

University of Delaware graduates planning to attend Alumni Weekend are encouraged to register for the annual Blue Hen 5K walk and run, which will be held Sunday morning, June 5.

June 6-9: Food and culture series

The 20th annual June Lecture Series at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UD in Wilmington will be held June 6-9. Titled 'June a la Carte,' this year's program focuses on great political documents, feminism, world politics and a Newark cuisine sampler.

Loper’s work first came to the University in 1967, when the Class of 1941 gifted the painting Buildings. More than three decades would pass before UD acquired Winter Still Life and the portrait Benoit Coté.

In 2006, a significant collection of Loper’s works came to the University thanks to the artist and his wife, Janet Neville Loper.

The collection has continued to grow since his death in 2011 as a result of individual donors and Janet Neville Loper’s continued generosity.

This exhibition of paintings by Loper in the University Collection represents the span of his career from 1941 to 2011.

A lecture and reception will be held from noon to 2 p.m., Saturday, April 9, in the Old College Gallery. Speaker Brian Scott Miller will discuss “Edward L. Loper Sr., Artist and Educator.”

Admission to all University Museums exhibitions and events is free and open to the public.

The Old College Gallery is open from noon-8 p.m. Wednesday, and noon-5 p.m. Thursday through Sunday. It is closed during all UD breaks and holidays.

Guided tours are available by request. To book a tour, call 302-831-8037 or write to universitymuseums@udel.edu.
