Unsung Hero

The One Love Foundation has announced that University of Delaware men's lacrosse standout Elijah Conte has been selected as a winner of the 2016 YRL Unsung Hero Award.

UD sophomore Chloe Roberts described the team’s second competition of the season, saying, “Overall the competition was pretty difficult for us but we pulled through and that was definitely because of the support the team has for each of its members. Hearing the support from your team members really can get you through your program no matter how long it is.”

“Every aspect of competitions is a great experience, from the bus ride there and back to the actual skating aspect of it,” UDFS secretary Courtney Taylor said. “We are always helping and supporting one another, and I think that's what sets us apart from the other teams. With nationals coming up in a month, this competition really helped prove to us how strong we are as a team. I think that as long as we keep working as hard as we are now and encouraging one another to be even better everyday, we have a good chance of winning nationals again this year.”

Freshman Regina Rubino was excited for her second collegiate competition, saying, “Another amazing weekend with the best, and loudest, support group. Hearing my teammates cheer me on as I skate makes all the difference.”

UDFS is gearing up to host the collegiate national championships, schedule April 9-10 at the Fred Rust Ice Arena on south campus off South College Avenue.

UDFS prides itself on how supportive the team is as a whole, and not just for their fellow UD skaters but for every school at the competition, a team representative said, and the skaters said they hope that support will spread through the student body when the national event arrives.

The intercollegiate figure skating season continues this weekend, March 12-13, when UDFS travels to the SUNY Geneseo Intercollegiate Competition in Geneseo, New York.
