1:56 p.m., July 7, 2015--This fall, the University of Delaware’s Lynn Sydnor-Epps will be one of only three U.S. career services professionals traveling to France and Germany to take part in the esteemed Fulbright International Education Administrators Program (IEA).

IEA seminars help U.S. international education professionals and senior higher education officials create empowering connections with the societal, cultural and higher education systems of other countries. Grantees have the opportunity to learn about the host country’s education system as well as establish networks of U.S. and international colleagues.

Global Stories

Fulbright awards

Three University of Delaware students and an alumna have received word this spring that they will travel abroad as part of the newest class of Fulbright Student Program award winners.

Peace Corps plans

Two University of Delaware students, John McCarron and Bridgette Spritz, have been selected as Peace Corps volunteers and will serve in Ghana and Rwanda.

Sydnor-Epps, currently the interim director and associate director of employee relations of UD’s Career Services Center (CSC), will spend two weeks in Berlin and Frankfurt, Germany, and Strasbourg, France. During this time, she hopes to not only learn about the European career services model but also plans to gain connections that will eventually expand the CSC’s employer base.

“It will be interesting to learn from how these institutions are executing their initiatives and strategies, carrying out their goals, and to get a feel for the career services landscape outside the U.S.,” she said, adding that she “looks forward to developing new employer contacts for the University of Delaware.”

Beyond her professional goals for the program, Sydnor-Epps, who often advises members of the international student community, hopes to personally gain a global perspective from the program. “I really anticipate personal and professional growth,” she said. “I hope to apply the things I learn to my work here on behalf of our students, our employers, and staff.”

When applying for the Fulbright award, Sydnor-Epps received great encouragement and support from members of the Career Services Center and University staff.  After returning to UD in November, she anticipates also becoming an ambassador for members of the community interested in applying for a Fulbright award.

“As much as I am looking forward to visiting and taking part in the program with other Fulbrighters, I am equally as excited to come back, share information, and encourage others to apply,” she said.

Sydnor-Epps will join over 150 members of the UD community who have received Fulbright Awards since 1951.

Faculty interested in applying for future iterations of the International Education Administrators Program, or any other Fulbright Scholar award, are encouraged to contact Nancy Guerra at nguerra@udel.edu.

About the Fulbright Initiative

In fall 2014, UD’s Institute for Global Studies launched an initiative to increase the number of Fulbright recipients at UD and to honor members of the University community who have received this prestigious award.

As a part of this effort, IGS manages the newly established UD Fulbright Society and the annual Fulbright Spring Lecture Series, and works across campus units to provide a myriad of resources to prospective applicants, including UD faculty, staff, alumni and undergraduate and graduate students.
