3:12 p.m., July 21, 2015--Deborah W. Brooks, co-founder and executive vice chairman of the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research will speak at a symposium to be held from 5:30-7 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 19, at the Health Sciences Complex on the University of Delaware’s Science, Technology and Advanced Research (STAR) Campus.

Brooks will present a talk titled “How Do We Get to Cures?” and will share information on clinical trials, research webinars and fundraising opportunities.

University of Delaware graduates planning to attend Alumni Weekend are encouraged to register for the annual Blue Hen 5K walk and run, which will be held Sunday morning, June 5.

June 6-9: Food and culture series

The 20th annual June Lecture Series at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UD in Wilmington will be held June 6-9. Titled 'June a la Carte,' this year's program focuses on great political documents, feminism, world politics and a Newark cuisine sampler.

The symposium will begin at 5:30 with a reception in the atrium, and Brooks will speak at 6.

Self-guided tours of the Health Sciences Complex will begin at 7.

The event is free of charge and open to the public. Space is limited and those who plan to attend are encouraged to register soon via this web page.

Brooks launched the foundation with actor Michael J. Fox and served as its president and chief executive officer from October 2000 to February 2007. 

With a background in business and finance, she brings strategic leadership, business acumen and an entrepreneurial approach to the foundation, which has grown rapidly from a start-up to the world's largest private funder of Parkinson's disease research.

Brooks currently oversees the foundation's fundraising, communications and digital strategy teams, serving as a senior adviser on strategic and programmatic direction.
