The Crab Cake Cook-Off is a time-honored tradition of Coast Day, the College of Earth, Ocean, and Environment and Delaware Sea Grant’s annual community festival promoting marine stewardship and education.
The trivia quiz includes a variety of questions about blue crabs, from the way anglers identify them to the way past Coast Day cook-off chefs have prepared them. Interested participants must complete and submit the 20 question quiz by Monday, Aug. 17.
“The Crab Cake Cook-Off is a long-standing crowd favorite of Coast Day, and people always wonder how they can become a judge,” said Doris Hicks, seafood technology specialist for Delaware Sea Grant. “Here’s the chance.”
Judges will select the winning recipe based on taste, texture, predominance of crabmeat and originality.
Those interested in competing in the Crab Cake Cook-Off can submit their recipes on the Coast Day contests page by the Aug. 7 deadline. Eight finalists will vie for a cash prize, a position on next year’s judging panel and the award for Delaware’s best crab cakes.
The trivia contest winner will be announced Aug. 24. In the event of a tie, a winner will be randomly selected from the top participants.
