Newark Police make arrest in June 20 bank robbery

11:18 a.m., July 23, 2015--Newark Police have arrested a 23-year-old Newark man in connection with the June 20 robbery of the Wells Fargo Bank at 622 South College Ave., Newark.

After a month-long investigation, Newark Police identified Jarone Walcott as a suspect. He was also identified as a suspect in an attempted bank robbery being investigated by the Delaware State Police that occurred July 10 at a Wells Fargo Bank on Capitol Trail in Newark.

On the evening of July 22, detectives were able to locate Walcott at the Red Roof Inn located on Stanton Christiana Road in Newark and take him into custody. A search warrant was served on the vehicle Walcott was apprehended in, and items further linking him to the crimes were located. During the search, drugs and drug paraphernalia were located, leading to additional charges.

Walcott was charged with second degree robbery in the June 20 incident, attempted first degree robbery in the July 10 incident, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a non-controlled substance without a prescription. He was arraigned through Justice of the Peace Court #2 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in lieu of $28,500 secured bond.
