Blue Print 3D Studio hosting inaugural student design challenge
3:49 p.m., Jan. 20, 2016--To celebrate Blue Print 3D Studio’s upcoming grand opening in February, University of Delaware Information Technologies and Faculty Commons are hosting their inaugural Student Design Challenge.
The contest is intended to increase awareness of 3-D printing and design among students by sparking interest among novices and experts alike.

All current UD students are welcome to submit their original designs on Blue Print’s submission page by Feb. 29. Designs must fall into one of three categories: wearables, musical instruments, or kinetic objects. When submitting a project for the competition, add "Submission for Competition" to the "project description" portion of the form.
Three grand prize winners will be awarded a cash prize in March. Details are available on Blue Print’s website.
Blue Print 3D Studio, located in the basement of Smith Hall (Room 004), was officially announced on Oct. 28 during the UD Tech Fair. Since then, it has been supporting faculty courses featuring 3-D printing projects.
Beginning spring semester, Feb. 8, Blue Print will be open to any student, faculty or staff member, regardless of their department, major or class affiliation. The service will be free for a limited time.
Dustyn Roberts, assistant professor of mechanical engineering, and Jon Cox, assistant professor of art, spearheaded the campuswide 3-D printing initiative after they were awarded a 2015 Transformation Grant.
