Garden subscribers will be expected participate in community garden activities throughout the growing season, and to follow an organic, pesticide-free and herbicide-free approach. There are still some plots left, and applications will be accepted until March 15 or when the last plot is taken.
Located at 189 West Main Street, behind ELI, the Community Garden at ELI is now in its sixth year. The mission of the garden is to increase understanding of organic gardening and food sustainability on campus.
Collaborating with ELI instructors and international students, it also serves as a resource for language interaction and service learning opportunities within the Newark community.
From March to November, the Community Garden at ELI hosts monthly Saturday Garden Days for its community garden members and any others interested.
The 2016 Garden Opening Day is Saturday, March 19. Garden plot applicants must attend an orientation meeting that day at 9:30 a.m. Opening day projects will immediately follow. Visitors and volunteers are also welcome anytime that day. Questions can be emailed to Kate Copeland at coped@udel.edu.
